Welcome!
On these pages I write about my bike tour from Stockholm to Budapest – over Berlin, Prague, Passau, Vienna and Kraków – in the summer of 2002.

I biked the 2700 kilometers (1680 miles) in 27 days, spread out over two months since I stayed some days in each bigger city that I passed. I lived mostly at campings but sometimes in hostels and at friends. Three persons biked with me during different stages, but most of the days I biked solo.

What you're about to read is my bike tour diary, the travelogue that I wrote in the evenings after each completed stage. You will find facts, tips, photos and thoughts – because you think a lot when you cover mile after mile after mile, all by yourself.

How it works
Use the menu to the left to navigate: There you find all the travelogue entries – 28 in total.

Each entry begins with some data about that days biking. This is what the data mean:

Weather: Not so hard to understand, I guess...

Distance: How much I biked that day.

Time: Effective biking time and – in brackets – when I started out and when I reached my goal.

Average speed:  Based on the effective biking time, means the time I sat on the bike and really biked.

Accomodation: The price (converted to dollars) and type of accomodation. Note that the price always counts only for me, which means that the actual price for having a tent at a camping was the double at the times I had a friend with me.

Guestbook & chat
You make me very happy if you write an entry in the guestbook – no matter how short!

Do you have AIM/iChat? It happens every now and then that bicyclists contact me - feel free to do so! My nick is swekarl.

A few links
While waiting for a link page, here are two sites that I can recommend:

Bikeforums.net - great forum
GreatCycling.com - my friend Eli's bicycle tours in Italy

Now enjoy your stay!

Latest update: 13 December 2004.

The red line is how I biked from Stockholm to Kraków.
The blue lines are ferry and train respectively.
The numbers indicate which biking day I came where.

This is what it could look like when I, after having arrived at a camping, summed up the day's biking.
